Artist Statement

The narrative and symbolic aspects of images have been my artistic focus for a number of years. By juxtaposing images, in both individual and installation works, I suggest a multitude of possibilities, depending on the viewer’s state of mind and experiences, rather than “tell” a story. Mixed media provides me the best medium for exploring my visual concerns. Using drawn, painted or photographic images, often with layers of encaustic medium, I create visual statements with both personal and public meanings.
--Laurel Garcia Colvin
Laurel Garcia Colvin is a wonderful artist whose encaustic works, sculptures and assemblages draw people in by their sheer beauty, their spiritual depth and romantic nature and their meticulous proficiency. I have now visited Ms. Garcia Colvin's studio a number of times as well as having attended several of her exhibitions. I have seen a consistent positive reaction on the part of the viewing audience. Her works bridge the classical school of art with contemporary technology and genre.
